ECHOES OF CHU SONGS.

Part 1: The experience.
How do you describe living a moment you’ve only ever seen on screen? Because, honestly, I am still smiling when I think of last night.
A good friend, whom I hold in such high regard, got me a ticket to watch Echoes of Chu Songs at the Kenya National Theatre. I didn’t know what to expect; I simply went straight there after work. When I arrived, the first thought that came to mind was, “I should have gotten here earlier.”
There was so much happening, from the stunning setting to the vibrant décor, and even cosplay inspired by the show. It was an experience I didn’t want to miss for the world. Though it was my first time attending such an event, and I went alone, I didn’t feel awkward at all. The energy in the room was infectious; for many in the audience, it was clearly a celebration of something they deeply loved.
Over time, I’ve grown to appreciate Chinese culture in many ways. I enjoy the food, have adopted some of the life philosophies, and have been learning the language. Experiencing last night’s event felt like living out one of my long-held dreams. It reignited my motivation to keep studying Chinese, yes, time to open Duolingo again.
The night was artfully executed and felt like a vivid tapestry of colour, music, and tradition. It was not just a show; it was a cultural bridge, and I’m grateful I got to cross it.
Look out for Part 2, where I’ll share how the performance itself unfolded.
